From download to your first judged run

Six steps, about five minutes. You do not need a digital piano to try it — a computer keyboard works too.

Download for Windows

The steps

  1. Download and extract the client

Extract the whole folder (not just the .exe — the .pck next to it is the content pack). It is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen will ask for confirmation the first time; choose More info, then Run anyway.

    Download page →
  2. Connect your piano, or just use the keyboard

A digital piano plugged in over USB-MIDI is detected automatically. No piano? Every practice screen has a keyboard at the bottom you can click, and the computer keys are printed on the page.

  3. Measure the latency, then calibrate

This is the one step people skip and then blame the scoring for. The client walks you through calibration on first launch; in the browser you can run the timing probe to see how far behind the sound your machine is.

    Timing probe →
  4. Pick a piece and listen to it first

The library is public-domain piano music with provenance on every entry. Hit Audition to hear the first 45 seconds with the real piano samples, then open the piece and press Practise to play along.

    Library →
  5. Record yourself playing

With a MIDI keyboard connected, the recorder turns your performance into a score of its own — usable in the browser straight away, and stored in this browser.

    Record →
  6. Keep it in My scores

Everything you add or import lands in My scores: import your own .mid files, export a two-hand MIDI or a health report of the fingering, and open the proofreading page to fix marks by hand.

Common questions

The scoring says I am late even when I am not
Do the latency calibration first — judging compares your key press against the audio clock, and every machine has a different delay. Skipping it is the single most common reason the feedback feels wrong.
Why does Windows warn me about the download?
The build is not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen reports an unknown publisher. Choose More info → Run anyway. The SHA-256 on the download page lets you check the file is the one we published.
Is there a Mac or Linux build?
Not yet: only the Windows 64-bit preset is configured. The browser side (library, practice, recording, my scores) works on any modern browser with no install at all.
Do I need a real piano?
No. Any MIDI keyboard works, and the practice screen is fully playable with the computer keyboard — the key map is printed under the notes.
Can it mark hands and fingering for my own scores yet?
Yes — open My scores and press “Mark hands & fingering”. The server runs the model and writes the result back into your score; the page shows progress while it runs, and you can fix anything you disagree with on the proofreading page.
